yes yes yes
and also...

this book is lovely.
(you can also buy it here, where there are lots and lots of other lovely/smart things)

and do you know permanent food? interesting. or this?

[oh and a slightly random bonus.]

actually, i've been thinking a lot about books and self-publishing lately - kind of an an extension of a rather long thought that i've had in my head since my first encounters with zines in high school (thank you quimbys, riot grrrl, et al). i really love artist books and zines and small press books. they are at once personal and public - but married with the handmade in a way that feels really interesting. they are a political act, a revolutionary act even. they are just simply beautiful in both form and intent. so i have a proposal...

[SMALL] books
a swap project, by hoping for happy accidents

exchanging obscure, curious, unique, slightly crazy, handmade, artist-made, small press, limited edition, limited run...

...books, zines, tracts, magazines, newspapers.

participants are asked to send any three books to their partner. you don't have to make them yourself, but if you want to, you can. think about putting together an interesting reading/looking experience for your partner.

if you'd like to participate, please e-mail the following to hopingforhappyaccidents(at)yahoo(dot)com:

+ your name
+ email address
+ mailing address
+ website
+ a little something about yourself

i'd like to limit this swap to 25 people and (don't hate me!) you must be willing to swap internationally and have a website, blog or a flickr account to which you regularly post to participate. admission to the swap is first come, first served.

registration for this swap is closed. thank you so much for the overwhelmingly positive response! what a lovely surprise!

i'll e-mail participants the information about their swap partners on or about july 4th.
the mailing date for this swap will be july 25, 2007.

while looking through an old issue of the australian home interiors magazine, inside out, i found these wonderful handmade lighting fixtures.
i'm a little obsessed with them, actually.

they remind me of that wonderful play by gertrude stein,
dr. faustus lights the lights.

(you can get them - and other interesting things - here)

also:
* more evidence that graphic tees are (i suppose) not all bad
* funny, sweet, good.

i just finished reading a strange and engrossing book of short stories by jean thompson called throw like a girl and it just so happens that she'll be reading from the book here in new york this week. if you are in the city, this might be worth checking out:

it would be so nice to sleep in one of those.

i want to go.

lots of good links here.

the fall 2007 lookbook from nom de guerre is kind of wonderful to look at. i am one of those people that seems to be perpetually waiting for fall to begin. its the best time.

oh and this is also wonderful to look at.

i have just been so inspired recently by a few blogs.
they've been mentioned here before, but grijs, fine little day (+ fine little thing) and reference library deserve another mention.

reference library's ebay and items i didn't win posts have inspired me to maybe include a few now and then.
for instance, have you seen this?
if i didn't already have one this large (and if my pockets weren't feeling empty)...i'd jump in the bidding pool.

and um...
my dislike of graphic tees is known.
they are usually so bad. but i adore this one.
mostly because it scares me.
(actually, impulse has lots of cool, interesting things)

also, an interesting, new-to-me blog
(she also makes interesting clothing. i love the smock dress. love.)

from my inbox today:
i got a lovely e-mail from the french designer caroline gomez about her beautiful porcelain service, called wood (because it is cast from versions she made from thin sheets of wood) and an event she is having in paris to introduce it.

such beautiful work
...with an emphasis not just on the vessel, but also on the food it contains.
