accidental interview #7
...a periodic presentation from hoping for happy accidents

i'm a little in awe of yen ha and michi yanagishita.
these two architects (and grads of carnegie mellon), who met one day in pittsburgh's schenley park, now run the stellar front studio together. when not shaping space in interesting and beautiful ways, they are redefining the idea of "ladies who lunch".

i was so happy to see over on knit squirrel that there's a great article in sunset magazine about the home remodel of heath ceramics owners catherine bailey and robin petravic. i really love and admire their style and their careful care-taking of the company's quality and identity. my boyfriend and i recently registered with heath for our wedding and were so surprised and pleased a week or so later to receive a lovely hand-written pancake & franks thank you note from the company.
who does that kind of thing anymore?
they're good people.

added: did you see? selvedge now has a store!

...a new accidental interview will be posted this weekend. have a good one!

this is my favorite room.

ever since fanja posted this image from the japanese publication come home, i haven't been able to get it out of my head. the colors, the textures, the wood, the warmth. its such an inspiring room! so this weekend, when i cracked open the april issue of domino magazine and flipped through to find this sofa...

...well, i was beyond happy. its perfect. i'm not really looking for a sofa, but this is just too good. it looks so much like the vintage chairs in my inspiration photo - like its the sofa just beyond the edges of the photo.

and to top it all off, finding the sofa led me to the super fabulous room.
i like it all.
a very happy accident.

that parker sure is pretty...

more manly links:
+ i love the style guy
+ godspeed the well-dressed man
+ engineered garments
+ seize sur vingt

...and this is just kind of amazing.

...and i almost forgot to mention, that i saw ann liv young this weekend at the kitchen. it was really really really super great.
dance with abandon. kind of mind-blowing.
i really don't want to see art that isn't like this.
if you aren't afraid, you should go see it.

(sometimes i wish i could write more about the performance work that i see. i see a lot of it. but it sort of conflicts with my job. argh.)

i think these amazing wood birds by heather amuny-dey popped up on design*sponge i may be a little late to the party...but i thought they were so wonderful they were worth mentioning again.

i first posted about rogan objects last year, but recently checked their website and found these almost eerie-looking glass cylinder pendants. gorgeous.

Saturday, March 10, 2007

i'm really attracted to the texture, shape and colors of these rafia flats from tashkent by cheyenne. so pretty.

my post about fall 2007 fashion is long overdue, but i guess i really haven't been inspired by much that i've seen in the shows. these days my fashion inspiration has been coming from the amazing style pics over on the sartorialist.

these prints by isamu noguchi are interesting...

so is this new-to-me blog.

oh and have you seen fanja's amazing new chair???
go see!

this morning i'm inspired

by miranda july's new live performance work, THINGS WE DON’T UNDERSTAND AND DEFINITELY ARE NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT, which i saw last night at the kitchen here in new york. it breaks your heart and then puts it back together again.

when it comes to your city, you should try and see it too.

i'm also quite excited about her upcoming book of short stories.

this has been the birthday of the necklace.

two of the necklaces in the picture above were gifted to me this year.
the super long, white resin river stone necklace is from dinosaur designs, a gift from my husband-to-be. the shorter wood bead necklace was a happy birthday thrifting find. and the third, long polished wood bead necklace...well...that one was found in vienna last year. somehow it made its way into the photo. perhaps because its standing in for this one (best seen here)...a belated birthday gift that is winging its way to me in the mail.

also two interesting links...
+ pour porter
+ from my e-mail inbox...delicate adornments by jimena

my head is fuzzy today.
just like my photo.
too much champagne last night. but still happy. yep.

Thursday, March 01, 2007

yesterday was my birthday.
i'm a little behind today...
a little sluggish from eating too much gâteau au citron...
a lot happy...

more tomorrow...
in the meantime, check out the new blueprint magazine blog, bluelines.

oh and how could i forget mav's stellar new photograph & print project. wow!
