hotels that are both beautiful and unique are quite hard to find, so i was overjoyed when happy accidents reader (and my beautiful use swap partner) anna told me about a extraordinary hotel called fabriken in an abandoned limestone quarry on furillen, a barren island near gotland in sweden.

the small hotel has 17 rooms and 1 rustic cabin designed by mats theselius and made from scrap wood from northern swedish farmhouses. the old factory on the grounds has been converted into the hotel's lobby, bar, bakery, cinema, dining rooms and conference rooms.

i want to stay there...
a trip to sweden is definitely on my list for 2007.

also, while searching for more photos of the hotel i found this extremely inspiring series of photos by katerina grip-höök. i especially like the living series, but they are all really beautiful. has anyone ever seen her books in person?
