this weekend the boy and i visited the cooper hewitt national design museum (which, i might add, has one of the best museum gift stores i have ever seen...yes, even better than the moma design store). it was an unexpected visit actually. a happy accident. we were on our way to central park to enjoy the gorgeous weather on saturday and passed by the museum. i noticed that there was a guest-curated exhibition by yinka shonibare and we decided to make a little detour. the show was small, but i really loved the installation that shonibare created to include in the exhibition. he makes really curious work that engages ideas about race, cultural identity and status.
there was also a nice exhibition of new design from israel. i particularly liked this post library bookshelf system by chanan de lange. the shelves are slanted, which is better for your books because it puts less stress on the spines. i also like that its made from a rather ubiquitous metal shelving set.
oh and yes...we did finally make it to the park to enjoy the weather.
it was wonderful, relaxing, perfect.
